An Extraordinary Purim

On Purim, everything is possible. Everyone can be, at least for one day, whatever they want to be. Every year in the lead-up to Purim, our makerspace becomes a center of magic and imagination. In the “Extraordinary Purim” initiative, a moving community partnership comes together — volunteers from the Valley and beyond, Gevasol employees, youth and adults — working side by side for three months to create unique, custom-adapted costumes for children with various physical disabilities.

It is a remarkable collaboration, and a moving encounter between need, dreams, and technology.

The Educational Dimension:  Every child has the right to celebrate. Learning about design and creative thinking to solve physical challenges, while developing empathy, listening to others, and teamwork.
The Industrial Dimension:  Using the center’s production equipment and technological tools to turn the impossible into the possible.
The Community Dimension:  A moving human encounter of shared making — the center’s team, partners, and volunteers from around the Valley, working for community members with disabilities.
The Connection/The Experience:  “When a wheelchair becomes a pirate ship and a walker becomes part of a superhero costume, the difficulty disappears — and what’s left is the huge smile of a child whose dream came true.”
